150 custom medals and ribbons for the UCL East Marshgate building launch.
These medals were available for any building user to take, keep, and wear with pride. Custom made for this launch, the artwork aims to start a conversation of compliments as people spot fellow medal-wearers. In its mass production and repetition of self-celebratory statements, everyone is special and the best. This raises questions about achievements and awards: who decides who can ‘win’ things, who deserves things that validate their existence, and can(’t) we just celebrate ourselves for the sake of it?
